Ghana Keyboards - Support
Installing winGlass Keyboard
- After downloading the zipped keyboard file, use WinZip to unzip it to into a new folder/directory [the name(s) of the file(s) should end in '.exe'].
- Double click on the installation exe file to start installing your keyboard. If you are using Windows XP, you will see a window similar to this one:
- Click on the 'Install' button to complete the installation.
Running winGlass Keyboards
- Study the keyboard layout for your keyboard.
- From your 'START' menu, select Programs>Tavultesoft > Tavultesoft Keyman.
- In the tray on your task bar [at the bottom right of your screen near the system
clock], you will see a Keyman icon [ the 'K' button circled in red in the following diagram].
- Open the program in which you want to type in vernacular, e.g. Microsoft Word or Notepad.
- Click on the icon and select the winGlass icon for your language from the list [Note that there will be only one driver if you installed a Lite Pak for one language].
- Type away. If you don't see the correct characters, change the default Font face [in Microsoft Word, this is Times New Roman] to one of these fonts:
- Arial Unicode MS [you might not have this on your machine]
- GentiumAlt
- Gentium
- West Africa7 SILSophiaL [comes with winGlass]
- West Africa7 SILDoulosL [comes with winGlass]
- For those who install the Premium Pak, you can easily switch from one keyboard
to another by simply clicking on the Keyman icon
and then selecting a different keyboard. - Remember, however, that because the keyboard is temporarily altered, some keyboard shortcuts which rely on keys that do not occur in the vernacular might become disabled. For instance, there is no letter 'c' in Ewe, thus when using the EWE winGlass keyboard, the Ctrl+C shortcut for copying unto the clipboard might not work on certain keyboards.
- In the case of the Ewe winGlass keyboard, the Left Alt key is not the same as the right Alt key (or AltGr key). Please refer to the Ewe keyboard layouts.
- To restore the original keyboard settings, click on the Keyman icon
in the system and select the 'No Keyman Keyboard' option.
winGlass Support
At the moment, Nyalasi Emporium (NE) will continue to improve the Ghanaian Language Support System under the provisions stated below.
- This piece of software is distributed free of charge with no warranty whatsoever. Downloading any software on this site means you agree with this provision. See also the distribution license.
- Although NE will try to develop and improve winGlass, we cannot guarantee this till we release our own keyboard framework.
To help improve the efficacy of winGlass, we ask that you - the user - send us feedback. In particular, we hope that you will tell us about situations in which you encounter bugs - i.e. the winGlass system behaves unpredictably.
Please use our online bug report wizard which can be accessed from here.
